Media handling
When the operator and user are authorized to process a downloadable source, Annotated creates a bounded rendition and validates its duration and dimensions. Video output is capped at 426×240. Otherwise the product uses an official timestamp-bounded player or links to the source; it does not expose a download endpoint.
Attestation
Before publication, the author must affirm that they believe the limited excerpt and original commentary are lawful fair use and that they have accurately credited the source. The attestation version and time are retained for audit.
Claims
Every public and unlisted annotation includes a File a claim action. A rights holder, creator, subject, or authorized representative can submit evidence privately. Moderators may restrict media during review, request information, remove or restore material, reject a claim, and record an immutable decision history.
Not legal advice
Fair use is fact-specific. These product rules do not guarantee that a particular use is lawful and do not replace advice from a qualified attorney.
